Science is a really important part of everyday life and is taught discretely in weekly Science lessons throughout Key Stages 1 and 2.
We aim to ensure that children ask questions about the world that they live in and try to find answers through first-hand experiences, using all of their senses and through secondary sources, using books and the Internet. Lessons are enjoyable and give the children the opportunity to explore their ideas and extend their understanding of things. Throughout their primary school life, different areas are revisited and built upon so that children constantly have the opportunity to build on and extend previous learning, whilst consolidating things that they learnt before.
Children are encouraged to consider the rapid and important discoveries in science and how these impact on our lives today. There are chances to use scientific knowledge in other areas of the curriculum and also for other learning to be used in Science, particularly Maths and Literacy.
